Cantina Di Sant'Oronzo
Discover how the Sant'Oronzo Winery revitalized primitive native grape species that were once thought lost. A story of resilience and passion for the Puglian terroir.
The story of Cantina Di Sant'Oronzo is one of rediscovery. Thirty years ago, the winery's current owners found an abandoned vineyard overgrown with weeds. Hidden among the foliage were vines of Susumaniello, an ancient grape varietal that had nearly gone extinct.
Through years of careful pruning and organic cultivation, the vineyard was brought back to life. Today, their Susumaniello wine is highly sought after, known for its deep ruby color and complex notes of dark berries and spice.
'We didn't invent anything,' says head winemaker Elena. 'We just listened to the land and let the grapes speak for themselves.'
The winery has become a hub for the local community, hosting harvest festivals and tastings that celebrate the rich viticultural history of Puglia.
